I am a huge fan of the matte lip trend! It's super-cool and verstile. You can wear it anywhere! A nude pink is good for everday, but you can also lean towards the opposite end of the spectrum and wear a dramatic red. The possibilities are endless, but sometimes it can be hard to achieve the perfect crisp edges and smoothness matte lipstick is so famous for. So here are a few tips that will help you slay your matte lipstick!

Tip #1: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!

This is an important step to do before actually applying your lipstick. “Exfoliating before applying a matte lip is important because matte lipstick isn’t as forgiving as gloss, so every imperfection will show.” Tara Shakespeare, professional makeup artists says.

You can apply a thin layer of Vaseline, then gently scrub of the dead skin with a soft toothbrush.

Tip #2: Use a Lipstick Brush!

It's a bit daunting to go after the edges of your lips with the actual lipstick, especially if you're new to matte lipstick. So take a little lipstick brush, dab the color onto it, and you can get those difficult lines and edges with precision. The fill in your lips with either the lipstick or the brush.

Tip #3: Wipe away any excess

If you're wearing matte lipstick, the last thing you want is for it to be gooey because we went a little crazy in application. But, never fear, just blot your lips on a piece of toilet paper or a paper towel. Ta-da!
