Scientists and humanitarian education
In Greece, admission to universities is done through examinations all over the country. Students choose four courses according to their preferences and are examined in a diverse subject matter. Those interested in medicine, mathematics, and chemistry choose Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Mathematics and Modern Greek Language. Those interested in law, psychology or social work choose Ancient Greek, Modern Greek, Latin and History (I chose this category).
This year was really remarkable. The team of teachers who chose Physics and Chemistry subjects put the most difficult exercises ever -- exercises that even the teachers themselves could not solve! As a result, all students are anxious about the education system in the country that does not allow students to enter universities.
"Positive" scientists in our country do not have humanitarian education. They deal only with their science and do not read books of ancient Greek philosophers. So they do not understand that science promotes thought and does not enslave man in it. They do not think how to create a good rating system for students but require irrational knowledge in this small age.
How is education where you live?
