On February 5th, 2019 the Chinese new year of the Earth Pig (or Golden Pig) commenced. Read on for fun facts about the Chinese New Year.

This is the year of the PIG! Today, I wanted spotlight a specific holiday.
I love learning about different cultures and this particular holiday is a very beautiful and interesting one. Oink oink!!! 

Here are 5 fun facts about the Chinese New Year:

🐷 This holiday is known as the Spring Festival, and it is widely celebrated all over the world!

🐷Just like the color red, the pig represents luck, fortune, and prosperity (I guess this explains why piggy banks are a thing...) but the color red also symbolizes protection from mythical monsters. This is a very popular color worn during the Spring Festival celebrations.

🐷 In order to be lucky, showering or cleaning is not allowed days before the holiday begins! 

🐷This holiday does not have a fixed date every year, for example: the next Spring Festival will begin on January 25, 2020. 

🐷The year of the Golden Pig arrives once every 60 years on the Chinese Zodiac.
