COVID-19: An Italian's Words

57 منذ أشهر

Welcome back!

Currently, there isn’t anyone who hasn’t heard of the global coronavirus pandemic. With authorities starting to panic in the first two months of 2020, COVID-19 made its way from China to 174 other countries, resulting in Italy being the second-most affected country worldwide at the time of this blog writing. I myself, was lucky enough to get in contact with an Italian doll and speak to them about the current situation. They would currently like to remain anonymous, but if any Italian readers are interested in giving their opinions, comment down below to discuss the topic.

Q: Can you briefly summarize the situation in Italy?

A:I would say the whole situation got out of hand quickly and it doesn't seem to get better. We could've definitely prevented this if only we had been more careful.

Q: Had you ever expected the situation to reach this level in Italy?

A:Initially, no. Since I first heard of the spreading of the virus, I've been doing my best to not ease the contagion and I thought it'd be enough, but eventually I had to come to terms with the fact that it was only going to get worse.

Q:What advice would you give to the ordinary population in regards to this situation?

At this point it all depends on you as a person. Wash your hands, avoid big crowds, cough/sneeze in your elbow and wear a mask if you are sick. Protect yourself, your loved ones and people who are at a high risk of contracting the virus and becoming seriously ill due to it.

Q: To what extent does the situation with the virus affect the life of an ‘everyday’ person?

We have the obligation to stay inside and we can only leave the house for necessities, such as grocery shopping, buying medicines or going to work. As for us students, we still have to do all the school work at home and it's currently being debated whether or not we should continue the school year. I am currently at almost my third week of being stuck inside my home. It's tough, but I think we'll make it.

Q: Do you have hope for the future in regards to the pandemic?

I believe the virus can be fought, but everyone has to collaborate. Doctors worldwide are working hard to save the infected and find a cure, and I am extremely grateful for them, but we have to play our part too. If we can do that, then everything will be okay.

Take care,
