Welcome to my new series: Real Talk with Rachel. 

For my first post, I will be discussing my Auntie Angela's favorite saying, that I use in my daily life: We vote with our wallets. 

What does it mean? Well, how we spend our money has a lot to do with the choices we are presented with. As an example, let's say a fast-food restaurant offers yummy food, but has awful policies regarding women's health or LGBT issues. Would you eat there? I wouldn't because those are things I care about. I am voting with my wallet by not spending my money on food that hurts others. 

This is just one example. Another would be this: a new independent coffee shop opened up around the corner from where I live. It's a bit more expensive than the local chain coffee shop, but I like the atmosphere and know that the money they make goes back into my community. So I buy my coffee there whenever I can. I want them to stay in business so I am doing my part to help keep them going.
